"Princess Celestia! Princess Celestia!" Twilight Sparkle cried as she galloped down the grand hall of the Canterlot Palace.
The Sun Princess was standing with her back turned, facing one of the stained glass windows. She darted her eyes at the coming Twilight. The little purple unicorn stopped and lowered her head in exhaustion. Princess Celestia turned to her anxious student and noticed she had a book with her. She took the book from Twilight and started reading it.
"You really love your history," said the Princess.
"But is this true?" asked the student. "Could this be the reason that Sombra did all of this? I am not justifying his actions but it calls into order the ways of these crystal ponies."
"My sister and I are also from that era," interrupted Princess Celestia, "but I will read with you on this account. It is fortunate that you found a book of the Crystal Empires history"

Fluttershy was rushing about her cottage with the help of her critter friends, cleaning the surroundings as fast as she could. Flying back and forth, making sure that everything was in it's place.
"Oh, I hope that He has not forgotten about me already, with him being gone in Canterlot and all. What do you think, Angel?"
Angel Bunny looked angrily at Fluttershy. He crossed his arms and then turned away. Fluttershy looked momentarily concerned at Angel Bunny before going back to arranging her belongings.
"Fluttershy. Fluttershy we're here!" Trumpeted Twilight Sparkle as she and Discord came into Fluttershy's home. But Fluttershy could not hear them. She had blocked everything out around her in her mission to make her cottage the most inviting place in all of Equestria.
"Umm, Fluttershy... What are you doing?" Asked Twilight.
"Oh, Twilight! What are you doing here?! Fluttershy asked. "Aren't you supposed to be at the train station picking up-"
"Discord?" Interru

Alicorn twilight?

After another review of the episode, it seems that celestia and Luna have something else in store for twilight.

I think they want to make her an elemental pony like they are. "twilight sparkle"? kinda sounds mystical or starry. I dont know what kind of element she may be other than magic.

we have candence who is love and peace... then celestia of the sun, luna of the moon ... blue blood is just a conceded unicorn that probably has not reached that level of maturity yet,but very powerful in some way.

any thoughts?

I have discussed this with one of my friends and they mentioned a rather interesting idea. What if . . . Twilight Sparkle will now take lessons from Luna as the next level of her training. If so it would make the fact tat Twilight Sparkle had used Dark magic a vary nice way to foreshadow such an idea. I'm not sure that this has anything to do with what you have said but it's what it reminded me of.
Lessons on the proper use of dark magic from Luna. man that would be epic.
As for her element, I would say that Twilight is the time of day between day and night, Twilight Sparkle is and has been the one to unit her friends on more than one occasion. She reunited Celestia with her sister with the help of her friends who she also united into one cause. If I was to guess based on all of this I would say that she embodies the element of Unity.

Well, I think that Celestia and Luna may just be stepping down to let Twilight rule. That what I thought when I saw the episode. For Twilight's element though, I see her having the element of energy. Like she controls the balance of good and bad essence.

I believe you may be right. On an advertising poster, she has wings, and has them in many plush toys too. Also, her eyes glow with magic in a similar way that Celestia's and Luna's do. Not only this, but her cutie mark aligns with a solar system model in Canterlot.

I think she may simply become princess of twilight, the state between night and day. I believe that the test was to see if she was princess material.

As for Cadence, I don't think she's a part of the times of day alicorns, nor of love and peace - I think she is simply the Crystal Princess, as the Crystal Ponies called her. Notice that her cutie mark matches the Crystal Heart and was glowing with it. It was at that point that the Crystal Ponies yelled, 'The Crystal Princess! She has returned!'

I think all these facts prove that Twilight is the missing princess, the one to control the times where Luna and Celestia have no purpose.
